Silver spoon

Postby CliffB » 01 August 2016

Metal detecting on farmers fields quite a few things that you tend to find is spoons, I have only found two silver spoons in 3 years, not going to give you the details, of who what or date as I know them, will look forward to seeing how many will like to research the hall marks and most of all the maker's mark.
I had this spoon restored to its original

Hi Cliff,

Having this wonderful spoon cleaned/restored must have some deep meaning or value to you. Any background or story behind this item and why? Love personal stories on items. And what year and possible book price at auction would it fetch?

Hi Gold Jodie, no meaning to me or connection, it was just, I don't know, it was something I had to do, the maker's mark I knew about when I saw the CB for Charles Boyton, it's 22g of silver, assayed in London, tax paid with the Queen Victoria's head, (N) date letter is for the year 1888.
Had no value on it, but it is a beautiful spoon and I was happy to spend the money on it to bring it back to life, hope this is helpful to you Gold Jodie

Nice find, I have an old desert spoon set in the original box that I got in a trade a while back. They can be nice pieces for sure.
